About the Author
Madeline Puckette is a certified sommelier with the Court of Master Sommeliers and worked in several restaurants as a sommelier or a server before creating Wine Folly. Her design work with Wine Folly has been contracted by Wines of France, Wines of Bordeaux, Wines of Beaujolais, the Court of Master Sommeliers, the Guild of Sommeliers, the Washington State Wine Commission, and Rhône Valley Wines. Their glossy, graphic book isn't worth it. The stiff binding, bright colors and shiny paper may be costly to produce, but the text lacks passion. I disagree with her point on decanting. Decanters are difficult to clean and most of those odd shaped decanters could easily break and would look positively absurd on a table. Bottles don't take up as much space and there's no way to know if the waiter poured an ordinary wine into a decanter instead of the pricey wine you ordered. And it's part of the experience to read a vinter's label. There was no picture of a stoppered decanter. She says it's possible to decant Champagne. Well, yes, it's possible, but I would strongly suggest that you don't. More than a third of their book is devoted to different grape varieties. Every variety is listed, but grape varieties aren't always printed on labels. And why were there only 6 pages about California and only 16 pages on France? Her wine book is as ordinary as an encyclopedia. What bothered me most was that there was no mention of greatness...extraordinary vineyards weren't listed. No vineyards were listed or given credit for their quality. I want sensory perception, feelings, what's it's like to explore a musty dank cave in St. Emilion. There are finer books on wine, so I won't recommend theirs.

This book is absolutely hands down the most approachable, easy to digest wine book I’ve ever seen.. for anyone from beginners to wine pros.. you will love this book and find its unique ability to teach you all about wine fascinating. Open this book immediately upon receiving and let it breathe.. Filled with amazing illustrations and flavor/aroma wheels that make you visualize and understand wine very easily. It has many integrated layers of information and a firm yet velvety smooth hardcover finish. I loved the first edition of Wine Folly and this new Magnum Edition takes it over the top!.. Or shall I say over the rim?? Now buy it! You’ll thank me.
I have been associated with the wine business for over 40 years now. I read over 50 different books dealing with almost every subject of wine. I've read all of Hugh Johnson's classic books about wine. I used to use his books as educational guides when I taught wine appreciation.The WINE FOLLY is a totally amazing book. Its a fresh and new approach to learning about wine. It removes all the old stuffy Wine Snobbery from the past and injects humor, fun and so much more. The book has details that surpass when you normally find in wine books. The author, Madeline Puckette has an uncanny way in providing detail facts that are easy to understand and fun to learn. Once you pick up her book, you cant stop reading it. Its like a classic novel, you want to read more and more, but then afraid when its the end. I believe that every wine retail shop should keep a copy of Wine Folly on their shelves since it is now the marquee of all WIne Educational books. GREAT JOB
I love it.I was buying the previous version, but in April a friend told me that a new book came out so wait.When the pre-sale came out I bought it, it came out on the 25th set and I arrived, much faster than I expected.The content is very detailed, great info a visual format that is fun and easy to readNnow to enjoy it with a glass of wine!
This book won’t stay on my shelf, I’m keeping it handy near our wine rack. It’s a great reference for understanding what you’re tasting, terroir/region notes and how to discuss what you’re tasting when you’re drinking wine. As a visual learner and a graphic design lover, I just love this book. The content is presented in a much less intimidating or traditional way, without losing the learnings. I have to get some posters now too!

It’s beautiful, basic, but also informative and refreshing compared to other textbook like books! So incredibly easy to enjoy! Whether you are new to wine or studying your way through a sommelier course, the new wine folly magnum edition is a must-have. I thought the first edition was fantastic, but what they have done in this new improved version is unbelievable. They’ve added more grape varietals, improved on the map section, broken down food pairings, just amazing stuff. The feel of the book, the cover, is amazing in the hands, I will cherish this book alongside the original and The Wine Bible as I continue through my love of wine.
Love, love, love this book! It is beautifully done and I couldn't be more happy with it. It was an anniversary gift for my husband and he was so dang excited to receive it! We opened a bottle (or two!) and spent the evening looking through the book together. Very well done. Great info, beautiful infographics.
