About the Author

Preeti Mistry is the chef at Juhu Beach Club in Oakland, CA., which she co-owns with her wife Ann Nadeau. Born in London and raised in the United States, the James Beard Award-nominated chef earned her classic culinary credentials in the UK. When Preeti returned to the US, she worked as an executive chef at Google, among other gigs, before launching the pop-up that morphed into her popular restaurant. In 2017, Preeti and Ann opened a second restaurant, Navi Kitchen, near their Oakland home.Sarah Henry is a San Francisco Bay Area-based freelance writer. She is the author of the book Farmsteads of the California Coast (Yellow Pear Press, 2016).

If you take the time to follow the recipes, the dishes are awesome. You will need access to a good Asian market to get many of the ingredients.

Badass Chef Mistry's charisma shines through in a narrative which travels to four continents and ends up in her beloved Oakland. Don't miss the 'A Day in the Life of Juhu Beach Club' for a glimpse into restaurant life at JBC with its spicy aromas, workplace camaraderie, minor crises, happy (diverse) diners and, above all, delicious food.

This Book is amazing. The recipes are easy to follow. Details in regards to Indian spices and cooking is helpful to even someone who is not familiar with Indian cooking.The book itself looks classy. Probably the best Indian food cookbook for modern versions of the classics that are doable for the home cook. Interesting story and beautiful photography as well.

It would be hard to find another book that captures a place, a time, and identity/soul so successfully. After reading, you feel like you've visited Oakland and seen it from the inside out with Preeti leading the way.

The best kind of cookbook! Well-written stories that move and inspire are interwoven with intriguing and delicious recipes. I will be making Desi Jacks for a holiday snack, and I intend to make this book my go-to gift for the holidays.
