I'm a 73 year old guy who is fading away from golf to begin fishing more again. The last fish I caught was probably over 55 years ago, but as a kid I did a lot of bluegill, bass and pike fishing with my dad. Since then technology has changed... a LOT... and this book provided me with an excellent overview of the various kinds of products on the market these days, e.g., rods, reels, baits, lures, etc., as well as an explanation of a good variety of fish and how to catch them. It is an easy to understand book for beginners or adults alike, and I thoroughly enjoyed it. Very informative. Probably not for experienced anglers, but for me it was just what I was seeking.
I am a total beginner when it comes to fishing, but recently have become very interested in fishing and eating the fish I catch. I looked online to find out where to start and it is so confusing! There is so much equipment you can buy, different types of poles, reels, knots, bobbers, sinkers, snaps, swivels. The process can make you want to scream.This book is such a help. It has a whole chapter explaining almost every type of fish. It will also tell you lots about different baits and lures and what type of equipment you will need to fish. It is a huge book, 361 pages. It has LOTS of useful information. This is not your book if you are an expert and want a book about a more specific type of fish. It talks about saltwater fishing, but I think it is aimed more towards freshwater fishing. This book is GREAT for beginners and is worth every penny!
Great book , easy to understand with great pictures , drawings and commentary. Just what I needed. buy this book before you buy equipment or if you have been away from fishing a while.
Had information on everything, most is just general information for a true beginner. Talks about differences between rods, reels, baits, lures, rigs, stream fishing, lake fishing, freshwater and saltwater. Great read for me.
Good for beginners, I was looking more for rigging different ways to catfish , unfortunately there wasn't any info on that really. I hadn't fished for several years, and was trying to get back into it the last few years without much luch. I remembered some basics.
It has many years since I have been fishing, and now that I am retired. I would like to try it again, I wanted to start by learning some of the basics, and I thought there was no better way than a ",,, for Dummies" book. This is only a start, but gives an insight into a multitude of subjects. This is a good starting point.
My son loves it - it has given him some great advice! I really recommend this book for the beginner fisherman (woman).
Good book overall, the 2 authors attempts at humor doesn't really work.
I am 67 and have been fishing for years , but I got a lot out of this book that I didn't know .
