About the Author
Jack Williams was born in Jacksonville, Florida, and served in the US Marine Corps after graduating from high school. After his military service, he attended Jacksonville (Fla.) University where he earned a bachelor’s degree in history and government in 1962. He began his journalism career at the Florida Times Union in Jacksonville while attending college and subsequently worked at the Jacksonville Journal, the Rochester Times Union, and Rochester’s Democrat & Chronicle. In September 1982, when USA Today began publication, Jack Williams served as the weather page editor.In 1992, as Hurricane Andrew battered Dade County, Williams was in the National Hurricane Center, which was on the fringe of the strongest winds. He has flown into three hurricanes and has chased tornadoes with researchers. In January 1999 Williams was one of the half dozen journalists selected by the National Science Foundation to report on research in Antarctica.He is the author of The USA Today Weather Book, which won The American Meteorological Society’s Louis J. Battan Author’s Award, and The USA Today Weather Almanac.

I am a private pilot and have read many books/pamplets on weather over the years. This book is by far the best I have ever read. The graphics are very good and the author's detailed explanations make for very informative and interesting reading. I highly recommend this book...especially to pilots!
The title of this book could not be more perfect..."easy-to-understand"! This fabulous book brings the Weather alive to me! I have always loved reading the USA Today weather maps on Fridays and the short but informative articles next to them. This book is a collection of all those fabulous tidbits of information with accompanying diagrams that are so explanatory and colorful. I originally purchased this book several years ago at a used bookstore in Bellingham Washington, but left it in an airport! I have never forgotten it and yearned to see it once more, as I had only read the first 20 pages when I lost it. My replacement book from Amazon arrived sooner than expected and I have not opened it yet because it is a birthday present for me from one of my daughters...2 more weeks to go!The clearly explained text coupled with the expertly illustrated and detailed diagrams make this unique book invaluable to anyone interested in learning more about the Weather. I am a visual learner and for me this book makes the intricate components of weather systems jump right off the page and into my head! It is SO much more fun than reading chapter after chapter explaining how things work...this book Shows you with vivid examples! This book is a Must Have and could easily be useful to a school child, a college student, a teacher, or even a novice student of the weather like me.
This is a very nice book to read if you want to learn the basics of the weather and how and why various weather develops. Well-rounded information on many topics such as hurricanes, tornadoes, the jet stream, dew point, atmospheric pressure, etc.
Illustrations make difficult concepts easy to understand. Even though It has a lot of illustrations I wish there were more. I keep it in my car and bring to treadmill, bike time and when waiting for appointments. Exciting book. Attractive.

I think this book is incredibly full of good information! The pictures are wonderful and the reading is not too difficult or too simplistic. My only issue is with finding answers to the questions my instructor gives us to complete. My guess, therefore, is that the problem is the instructor's questions, not the book! HAHAHA - we are allowed to use the internet as well though. :D Great buy!
