I think the other reviewers have said it all when it comes to the gentle story and the excellent illustrations. This book is awesome!! I have no complaints at all. The one thing that I would add is that this story is also peppered with advanced vocabulary that is a useful challenge for my little child. I made flashcards of the words he stumbled with and we review them as a game, which he loves. I have found that, after accumulating a large library, most of the books for this age group use the same, easy words, which really limits the complexity of the story or the sense of accomplishment for the child after successfully finishing the book. This book is a nice exception and one that I would keep for the long haul.
I was expecting this to be a miniature chapter books as the other four original Little Bear books are. However, this is just one short story about Little Bear receiving a kiss for some art he created. My daughter was thrilled to see another Little Bear book, but even she was disappointed by the length. She was excited, however, to see some old friends like Lucy and Emily at the end of the story. It was cute, but too short for me to give full stars.
My two and a half year old son loves this book. It contains four short stories: What Will Little Bear Wear, Birthday Soup, Little Bear Goes to the Moon, and Little Bear's Wish. We keep it by his bedside and he frequently asks if we can read, "Little Bear in the snow?" or "Little Bear goes to the moon?" Sometimes he suckers me and I read the whole book to him before nap/bedtime. He loves the illustrations on every page, and I love that the story structure is simple enough that he can later learn to read with this book.I read Little Bear when I was younger and I'm happy to share it with the next generation in our family, and hopefully the generations to come!
Little Bear was a favorite of my son's. He used to ask my grandmother to read the stories to him, over and over. Eventually he learned to read, and he was able to read them to her. The copy that they read together was the one that her mother, (my great grandmother,) read to me.When I was older, we had an exchange student from Spain, join our family. Her family became part of our family, and we became part of hers. For the last 25 years we have shared in each others lives, and when my parents traveled to Spain this year, I sent this book with them, for her children.The book is the perfect size for large or small hands. It is in a good font for reading. I liked the softcover for packing and traveling, as well as functionality. It arrived quickly with no issues. I will buy from this vendor again .
The best of Little Bear, in my opinion. There are four stories, "What Will Little Bear Wear?", "Birthday Soup", "Little Bear Goes to the Moon", and "Little Bear's Wish." They are sweet, calm little stories that make a perfect bedtime read. Little Bear is perfectly relatable to any non-bear child, and yet there is just the right amount of whimsy and imagination to captivate little readers/listeners. Nowadays, its so easy for a young child to become overstimulated with TV and toys; its nice to know that you can push out the loud, noisy world and enjoy the quiet serenity of a Little Bear book when you need to.
My daughter, four years old, really likes this book. I've read it to her many nights. I like the stories too (which is good because sometimes I read them multiple times in one sitting) and the illustrations are great, perhaps I am partial though because I have always liked the artwork of Maurice Sendak.
I bought this for my 4 year old girl, because I grew up with this book and brought me good memories...she likes the birthday soup story a lot. I guess I bought it really for myself and then shared it to my little girl. But Im happy that she's learning to love the book 😊
I love this book, but then that was no surprise for me, because had I read it to my own (now grown) children when they were small. The wording, the story itself, and the illustrations are totally delightful, and work together beautifully. A very enjoyable and comforting book for little ones.
